Solutions Engineer I

As a Solutions Engineer at Green Mountain, you are the conduit between our clients’ data and the account management team. Your top priority is to build strong and trusting relationships with our customers and assist our Solutions Managers in providing and engineering best in class reporting, analytics, and advice to our clients. What Skills Do You Need?

While we hire a lot of parcel and logistics talent, our team comes from a variety of backgrounds, and we are eager to find people that are passionate about using big data, IT tools and cutting-edge processes to bring value to our clients. We are looking for:

Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree in IE, MIS, Supply Chain or Data Analytics, Math or other STEM
  • Knowledge of transportation and supply chain systems / concepts
  • Understanding of Business Intelligence tools & data warehousing
  • Fluent in spoken and written English

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, data cleansing, data manipulation)
  • Innovative thinker with strong analytical problem-solving capabilities
  • Entry level understanding of SQL queries and relational databases
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills including attention to detail and ability to pivot quickly between topics/projects.
  • Must be self-motivated and outcome-oriented, particularly driven by timelines and quality (works with very limited supervision)
  • Ability to work with projects of different sizes, complexity, and SOWs
  • Understands and works within established SE standards (defined by Green Mountain or management)
  • Excels at critical thinking and root cause problem solving.
  • Dedication to customer satisfaction, problem-solving, and teamwork
  • Ability to analyze numerical data, verbal data, and all other sources of information.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity with work assignments.
  • Willingness to obtain mastery of Green Mountain applications and tools.

  • Basic experience designing and executing queries in a relational database (SQL preferred)
  • Basic presentation and communication skills

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Learning about the parcel/shipping industry – this includes understanding terms used.
  • Understanding/Developing Needed Analytical skills - Excel (pivot tables, slicers, index/match, arrays, sum product, etc.); SQL basic/intermediate; Tableau basic.
  • Understanding the overall process of data through Green Mountain’s systems - Carrier File Types and data; Translation of invoices/data; Audit flags and processes; Closing and Packaging
  • Working with manager on developing verbal and written communication skills as well as basic presentation skills
  • Understanding of the UPS and FedEx Service Guides & Contracts - components/discounts/rebates/etc.
  • Understanding of “other” carriers’ contracts - USPS, LaserShip, OnTrac, etc.
  • Understanding of the GDW tables and how to do basic data pulls and ad hoc reporting requests including DAA’s
  • Ability to do re-rates – service changes, DIM changes, surcharges, CWT, re-zoning, transit constrained, GRI validation analysis, etc.
  • Assisting with the analysis and modeling for regional carrier and national carrier RFP’s
  • Running/Creating the monthly PSM and Savings Reports
  • Understanding of all the customer facing BI reports
  • Ability to develop reports using Green Mountain reporting standards from both Production and GDW tables.
  • Cloning and modifying production reports as well as creating On Demand reports
  • Working with mentor in interpreting and writing complex business requirements for GL Coding / Cost Allocation, data labeling, and/or reporting based on the needs and requests from the clients
  • Ensuring Jira and Confluence Action Items are completed for yourself daily (as per due date provided)
  • In tandem with the Solutions Manager, providing Green Mountain customers with guidance and best practices to solve their reporting and analytic needs.
  • Providing Solutions Manager with concerns related to timelines, customer’s expectations, etc.
  • Delivering open communication, maintaining a respectful work environment, working to build trusting partnerships, instilling confidence in our solutions, and fostering loyalty with customers and partners
